plant life-cycle
Nearly all plants have a life-cycle starting from a seed then to a plant which flowers and grows fruit containing more seeds.
Plants are often put into groups that describe the part we eat. Starting from underground and going up, plant groups are:
root - carrots, beetroot, radish, turnip
tubers - potato, ginger
bulb - onion, garlic, eshallots
stem - asparagus, kohlrabi
petiole - celery, sliverbeet
leaf - cabbage, lettuce, spinach, parsley
flower - broccoli, zucchini flower, globe artichoke
baby fruit - squash, sweetcorn, sugar snap peas
grown-up fruit - tomato, capsicum, peach, walnut
baby seeds - broad beans, peas, soy beans
grown-up seeds - chickpeas, lentils, peanuts, sesame seeds
